Safety Smarts: Home Safety for Kids

Welcome to the Team!

Hi everybody!

My name is Inspector Eric.

I spend a lot of my time helping families learn how their homes work and how to stay safe in them.

Along the way, I've met a lot of interesting people, but two of my favorites are a brother and sister named Chloe and Jack Smart.

Now, Chloe and Jack are very different from each other.

Chloe likes to read instructions.

All of them. Even the boring ones.

If a new toy comes with a ten-page instruction booklet, Chloe will probably read every page before she turns it on.

Jack is a little different.

If a new toy comes with instructions, Jack usually wants to see what all the buttons

do first.

Sometimes before he even knows what the toy is supposed to do.

Somehow, it usually works out.

Most of the time.

Even though they're different, Chloe and Jack make a pretty good team.

Chloe notices things that other people miss.

Jack asks questions that other people never think about.

Together, they've discovered something important:

Learning how to stay safe doesn't have to be boring.

Over the next several days, Chloe and Jack are going to help us learn about all kinds of things that keep families safe at home.

We'll talk about fire safety.

Electrical safety.

Pool safety.

Backyard safety.

And lots of other things that every kid should know.

Don't worry.

This won't feel like school.

Each Safety Smarts article will be short, easy to read, and packed with colorful

pictures, fun activities, and simple tips you can use right away.

Before long, you'll know things that can help keep you, your family, and your friends safe at home.

One last thing before we go.

Jack has a question.

Actually, he has lots of questions.

But right now, he has one very important one.

"What made that noise?"

That's the mystery Chloe and Jack will be trying to solve in their very first Safety Smarts adventure.

See you soon!

— Inspector Eric

A Note for Parents, Grandparents, Realtors, Teachers, and Caregivers

The Safety Smarts series was created to help children learn important home safety lessons in a fun, easy-to-understand format.

Each article focuses on one specific topic, uses colorful illustrations, and includes a fun activity designed to reinforce what was learned.

These articles can be enjoyed at home, in classrooms, during homeschool activities, at church, or anywhere children gather to learn and explore.

For Realtors, these articles can also provide a fun and educational activity for children visiting your office while parents discuss the grown-up details of buying and selling a home.

Our goal is simple:

Help children build safe habits today that can benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Thank you for joining Chloe and Jack Smart on their Safety Smarts adventures.

We hope you'll follow along as they discover that learning about home safety can be both fun and important.
